The Secrets We Keep

THE SECRETS WE KEEP by SHIRLEY PATTON

‘The Secrets We Keep’ is a story about a woman trying to outrun her past. It’s 1986, and Aimee McCartney travels from Perth, where her father is a government minister, to the gold-mining town of Kalgoorlie on the edge of the Nullarbor Plain to work in a welfare office. Through the relationships she forms with three local women, Lori Patroni, Kerry Steele and Agnes King, she is confronted by the consequences of her past decisions.

Exploring ideas of fate and choice, this moving story honours both ancient wisdoms and the power of choices, challenging the reader to make up their own mind.
